Home is where the hearth Is.

5.13.2019 — Logo Design for Middlebury South Asian Student Association

The Middlebury College South Asian Student Association (SASA) in Vermont offers a home to those who are far from their ancestral one. With members ranging from third-generation immigrants to Nepalese nationals to curious locals, SASA has expanded rapidly since its founding in 2012. It’s a vibrant, welcoming community, and deserves a logo to match its warmth.

The new SASA ‘Flame’ draws from Mughal textiles and henna art to illustrate three classical South Asian motifs—a communal fire, a lotus flower, and the sun. Thick linework and collegiate seal-styling seek to imbue the mark with both gravitas and approachability. A monochrome version allows for easy printing and product application. The text is set in Montserrat, a bold, legible, and free typeface that can be downloaded by any club member hoping to produce more design assets.

South Asian motifs such as Henna art, fire, and lotus flowers inspired the SASA mark. See if you can spot the small sun in the center.

A single-color version of the mark can be used for prints, overlays, or for small-scale applications.
